Burr Oak

Origin:- Glenurquhart

This timber came from a large oak tree which was felled in Drumnadrochit in order to prevent it being a danger to patrons in the new car park extension. The tree was felled at waist height leaving a stump which has now happily coppiced and new life will continue from the old stump.
The timber is exceptionally burred and full of wild grain and extensive coloration. Highly suitable for cutting into saw cut veneers for fine furniture
projects.

Caledonian Pine
Origin:- Glenmoriston

This timber is exceptionally rare to acquire in the quality shown here,
I was particularly lucky to be offered a log which had been felled due to being a roadside danger. The Log was over 4' in diameter and heavily fluted at the base. The age was in the region of 300 years old. The length of the butt to crotch height was 15' and almost knot free the entire length. The timber is highly resinous and is cut mostly showing edge grain, as depicted in the plate. I would only consider using this timber for a very special project.

Origin:- Glenurquhart

Western Red Cedar is usually imported from North America but I have been lucky in acquiring a particularly large windblown tree locally. The tree was huge and was difficult to mill but produced some of the cleanest knot free timber I have ever seen. This timber is extremely durable and has a pleasant sweet fragrance. One of the finest timbers for use in outdoor furniture and projects.
